Greetings!!
I not-so-recently realized that people have become addicted to cynicism. For those wondering what new disease cynicism is, it means being sarcastic and pessimistic about everything. Be it the news, or reviews or even views, until and unless it is cynical, people don't seem to like it. Why is it so? Are the good things part of a long buried history? Don't good things happen to anyone anymore? I don't agree with this.
Why is it that criticism is all we can do and we like? If a show talks about the good things happening in the country, we will readily change the channel disregarding the positives completely, whereas if the shows are based on violence and plunder occurring somewhere in the world, we are sure to stop on the channel and sympathize with the victims and maybe even spend some time talking about how the world is going to dogs! I mean, hold on! That is just one side of the story! The second side is the one you just disregarded!!!
If there was a cynicism meter fixed in each one of us, it would be reading "extreme" like in this image.
A sarcastic writer is "being real" when s/he portrays the picture as black and shadowy. As many news agencies are often portrayed in movies, people do not want facts anymore, they want scandals and some peppery news! Facts and optimism has seemingly "gone out of fashion"! Can anyone recall any channel where the anchor gives hope for betterment and doesn't just undermine the topic and make the viewers hopeless?! I bet no one can! Because there are hardly any like these! However, not only are we being sarcastic and pessimistic complaining about everything and everyone, but also we are subconsciously feeding our next generations to do so. If this continues to happen, our next generations will be born bored. As it is we see youngsters pointing fingers at everything and complaining about them. Seems like we don't breed doers anymore, we only breed complainers!
Nevertheless, I would like to end my Blog on this thoughtful note:
As is widely quoted, "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder!"
Peace.

ReplyDeleteyour writing skills are good.

@ wilky: I am clearly against negativity. The point I am making here is rather that people have now become cynical about everything, not that they are right.
