Greetings all,
“The largest migration of the history was from Orkut to Facebook”
Facebook is the second most popular social networking website after Twitter. Less than a decade ago, before Twitter was launched, Facebook topped the charts. Masses around the world are unhealthily addicted to facebook. The reason being it’s “privacy-guaranteed” hoax and its easy-to-understand user-interface. Vast numbers of individuals seem to practically live their lives on facebook – everything that matters to them and even those that don’t matter so much are all indifferently pasted on their facebook profiles. Facebook statuses are updated every now and then, reporting a change of mood or the occurrence of a surprising event to those who are equally idiotically addicted to facebook. Within minutes, a streaming conversation begins between complete strangers discussing the status. Not-to-mention the emoticon freaks who simply have to express their feelings in a series of words the Oxford Dictionary regards as “nonsense”.
Personally, I believe Facebook is a two-sided story with completely different perceptions. It is similar to everything that has a positive side and a negative side. Social connectivity and bringing people together across the globe are just a few benefits the maker of this website must have considered while making it. To top it off, games and entertainment were integrated to involve its users further. However, this ease has brought barriers in physical communications. People feel more comfortable talking on Facebook rather than in personal – exactly the way Japanese retreated from face-to-face communications after the advent of mobile phones. People have started living their lives with facebook. It was even reported that a Christian couple was married only after they had changed their facebook marital statuses from “single” to “married”! Pictures of every second are pasted on facebook albums, even those that ought to have remained personal. With the “privacy-guaranteed” hoax, people believe that their information is personal; what they don’t realize is that facebook has continually changed its policies, and now nothing is as personal as people believe it to be. Addiction to anything has its share of disasters to accompany it – same is the case with Facebook!
In the end, to sum it all;
Nothing is good or bad, it’s the use that defines the nature.
May Allah Bless Us All,
Peace.
