"Hey, pass me the cigarette"

Greetings all,

Seems like Blogger pulled me back online to share some more thoughts. It definitely is a notorious site allowing everyone and anyone to exercise their freedom of speech and to be invisibly HEARD!! This remains the topic of another article. What brought me back online right now is to share about drug abuse and its obnoxious popularity among teenagers from everywhere.

Be it an innocent-looking cigarette, a macho cigar, intoxicating fumes of heroine or any number of liquid drugs that dope the user into blissful unconsciousness, we see the category of people most prone to try and get addicted to these horrific drugs are teenagers from all around the globe. The simple reason in my view is the hyperactive nature of this age and parents' ignorance in this regard.

Teens are the most productive years of one's life when an individual is actually a bursting package of energy searching for a route to get out. Most often, the route it takes to exhaust is not the right one. The top of this list is occupied by drug abuse followed by a number of more serious abuses.

Smoking cigarettes has now become a sort of status symbol here in Pakistan. It is not considered much of a crime anymore. As opposed to the time when smoking cigarette was done in absolute secrecy away from all prying eyes, these days smokers do not really care if the person standing next to them is a non-smoker, an asthmatic or member of the opposite gender. No! Smoking is now a public activity. Every 10 steps you take out of your home, you find a smoker standing somewhere billowing puffs of smoke around him, (some even trying to puff rings) totally unaware of their surroundings. What is worse is non-smokers are now forced to smoke passively forever - since the number of smokers here is almost 7 from every 10 random people chosen (This is not official statistics. It is entirely my estimate).

I would like to take this one step further - an onlooker never knows what is in the cigarette! Whether it is additionally drugged or whether it is simply nicotine and tobacco, an observer can not identify unless the smoker shows signs of weariness. Regulars have allegedly overcome this effect as well. So now the non-smokers can never know what fumes they are being exposed to till it is too late.

Also, another drug abuse which has recently gained fame these days in Pakistan is the consumption of alcohol based drinks. Extremists can blame it all on the western culture and lack of spirituality - but the problem does not remotely lie in the west. They never kidnapped us and shoved wine down our throats. They never imprisoned us and injected us with drugs. It was our own free will to adopt such stuff that has led us here. So why when the results start unfolding, we are ready to point anywhere, blame anyone for it except our own selves!

I see people abusing drugs everyday i step out of the house; whether it is in the streets, in the marketplaces, in educational institutes or even outside Masjids. Everyone seems to be so lost in enjoying the sensations, they can hardly realize the scientific damages being done to them, spiritual impairments are still out of question.

Like it is no use crying over spilled milk, it is no use wasting a million words trying to explain the facts to those already addicted. Although it is not entirely impossible that addictions can improve, however, often the addict are pulled back into addiction. In my opinion, our focus of control should be the freshers, not the masters.

May Allah Bless Us All.
Peace.
