A Surprising Development in "Going Green"

Greetings!

Today during my trip back from the university, I couldn't help noticing buses lined up at CNG stations here in Karachi waiting for their turn. I was surprised to know that public transport has now shifted from the regular diesel-run engines to CNG. Though this conversion has posed significant difficulty in the regular car lines at the fuel pumps, it nevertheless is a positive action. Less than a year ago, I remember talking with my sibling about how a bus ran out of fuel and it had to be pushed all the way to a fuel station and an individual had innocently asked, "CNG pe convert nahi ho sakti?" (Can't it be converted to CNG?). At that time, we siblings had a great time ridiculing that individual we thought most probably was a visitor in Karachi from abroad. Now, however, none of the buses I have seen so far does not have a conversion switch installed on its dashboard. It is a positive development as far as cost-efficiency is concerned and also with regards to environment friendliness. However, this also poses an ethical dilemma because we are being charged according to diesel prices while the vehicle is actually run on a cheaper fuel. Nevertheless, progress, however small, should be appreciated.

Peace.
