Going Green (1)

Greetings!!

Everything does not have to be bad news - so here is my small attempt at promoting optimism.
We see countries becoming increasingly concerned about the degrading environment, and appreciably, attempts are being made to minimize this pollution. The first attempt to "go green" was the introduction of recyclable products like paper, plastic and scrap metals etc. Although the history of recycling dates back to 400 BC (according to Wikipedia), the more recent revival of this practice was during the post war period in 1970s. Recycling prevents excessive usage and extraction of virgin materials and the insane increase in dumps - a matter of vital importance according to the fact that all resources are limited.

Here in Pakistan, recycled paper and plastic bottles are both widely in use. Not only is this cost-effective, but also good for our environment. Although the quality and processing of these recyclable products is not regulated effectively, nevertheless, a lot is being done. Only the negatives need not be highlighted - I believe the media is sufficient for that. The progress may be slow, but progress is nevertheless differentiable from point zero.

Peace.
