The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho

Greetings!!

I happened to read this book a while back. With its easy language and smooth flow, this book is definitely a must read for all those looking for good stories in understandable language!

As a kid, I remember hearing this same plot-line in Urdu with slightly different setting and characters. Though this book was first published in 1988, I doubt whether the Urdu version was actually an adaptation of The Alchemist.

The story is centered on a shepherd who is foretold in his dreams that he has a bigger cause to fulfill. On the search for this "cause", this shepherd travels around half of the world. What happens next is written in the book.

It has a beautiful message engraved in the story - whatever happens, happens for a reason we may not be able to see while it is happening, but will realize to appreciate it when we look back at it. So when we challenge the Almighty by saying certain way could have been better for reaching the same goal, we are actually challenging His wisdom - which I believe is pure idiocy seeing we are nowhere comparable to Him!

Peace.
