Greetings!!
It is widely supported that loud blaring music is injurious to health. However, more recently, I have felt that music disorients the brain's directions and confuses the mind. I believe I will be backed up on this by many who have felt the same and criticized by many. Although I have also witnessed individuals working rather better when tuned into music in loud volumes. However, I find it not only distracting but also bothersome since it does not allow me to concentrate my attention on any single thing. On the contrary, soft music is more soothing to hear and allows one to relax. Hence we find soothing tunes being played in restaurants and spas where individuals are not exactly supposed to be productive.
Music, though strictly not preferred in Islam, has become an integral part of the present youth. Almost everyone - especially the youth - can be seen supporting an Ipod, mp3 or mobiles with this feature while walking on the roads, travelling on buses and the like. However, what we keep ignoring is that more often now, the hip-hop beats that gain stardom overnight are usually accompanied by pathetic lyrics that our brains register every time the song is played - and this does not only mean registering, it also implies that these lyrics have an effect on our lives and lifestyle. If we only stop and listen carefully to the lyrics and consider their possible impacts on our lives, I am sure a great percentage of sane youth will quit music altogether!
Peace.
